Fragrance is the fastest form of transport to a favorite place for her. Transport to the most beautiful memory, to the happiest moment. She was saved from workaholism by a trip to Sri Lanka, where she absolutely fell in love with incense sticks and ubiquitous scents. In her new role of being a mother she began to fully develop her passion and thus her new project.

In the interview, learn more about her journey and how these experiences have led her to become the lead developer for two new Oraculum product categories.

Oraculum, Tereza Drnek

1. Hi Terezka, tell us something about yourself and what you do.

The essence of my life has always been and always is traveling. The region of South-East Asia charmed me with its variety of cultures, colors and, above all, omnipresent smells, that I needed to bring a piece of that atmosphere back to Prague. But suddenly these scents didn't work so well here. They belonged to Buddhist temples and the courtyards of monasteries. So I was looking for a way to preserve those rituals, but adapt the scents to our interiors.

Then I became a mother. I absolutely love the role of mother, but I felt that there was suddenly a space for self-realization. So I started devoting myself fully to the creation of home fragrances.

2. What do you like most about your job?

Connecting the possible with the impossible and also meeting new people. For example, finding the incense sticks manufacturer in Sri Lanka, it was a lot of fun and an adventure.

3. How specifically does your life in Prague inspire you in your work?

I absolutely fell in love with Prague. Its nooks, architecture, fast pulse, but also the peace and safety it offers... The scent of cherries on Petřín, blossoming jasmines in Stromovka, lilacs that color the Letná slopes in violet. Walking through Prague, especially in spring, is probably the greatest possible inspiration.

4. How did you first meet the ORACULUM brand? What do you like most about it? Do you have a favorite item in the product range?

I came across Oraculum thanks to the Qurated project. There was a pop up in their summer studio at the time and I was charmed by both the scents and the energetic woman behind them.

I'm a big fan of figs, so Helenist is a clear favorite for me.

5. What was the most valuable thing you learned while working with fragrances?

Nothing is wrong. Fragrances are a very individual matter. What smells good to me may not smell good to someone else. There is great power in them and they can awaken in us what was sleeping somewhere in the depths.

6. What does beauty mean to you?

Beauty is like fragrances, it's so individual. For me, beauty is linked to a feeling of happiness. When I'm happy, I'm the most beautiful. And when the people around me are happy, shared experiences, discovering new places and being surrounded by things that make me happy - that's beauty.

7. And finally, how do you see yourself developing in the coming years?

I would like to push the possibilities of how to scent our homes even further. When you enter the interior, the smell is usually the first thing that impresses you. Churches, temples across all cultures have relied on it since time immemorial. I think I would like to help everyone build their own temple at home.
